MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Lucas Scott homered twice and drove in six runs in game two to help the Methodist baseball team to a split of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Huntingdon.
Methodist dropped game one, 11-5, and behind Scott stormed back for a 15-2 (7 INN) win in game two.
In the nightcap, the Monarchs got back-to-back homers from Brennen Brown and Scott in the top of the first inning for a quick 2-0 lead.
The Hawks answered with a pair of goals in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at 2-2 before MU began to pull away. Scott drove in a run in the second with an RBI single, part of a four-run inning, and Tucker Criswell had a two-run single as MU went up 6-2.
The Monarch lead swelled to 10-2 in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Brown and Scott, and Scott went deep for the second time in the seventh inning, a three-run shot that plated Brown and Matthias Carter, for a 13-2 lead, and MU put the finishing touches on then with RBI base hits from Will May and Clay Richardson in the seventh.
Tyler Hardee picked up the win (4-2), pitching all seven innings and allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Scott finished 4 for 5 with six RBI and two runs scored. Brown was 3 for 4, scored four runs and drove in two. Criswell was 2 for 2 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored.
In game one, the Monarchs started the scoring in the third inning. Matthias Carter led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He advanced to third on a sacrifice before crossing home plate on a fielding error by the short stop, 1-0. The Hawks tied the game in the bottom half of the frame as Headley singled and rounded the bases to score on an error, 1-1.
The Green and Gold manufactured three runs in the fifth inning as Alex Kachler reached base to start off the frame. He advanced on a sacrifice and a single by Brennan Brown and scored on awild pitch. Lucas Scott doubled to right field to move B. Brown to third before scoring on a sacfirice fly from Tucker Criswell, 3-1. The Monarchs added one more run on an RBI single by Tyler Hardee. HC tied the score again before Pete Wildeboer gave MU a 5-4 lead in the sixth frame. The Hawks added three runs on two hits in the seventh and another four runs in the eighth to complete the 11-5 victory.
Thomas Dean was charged with the loss after tossing 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed four runs on three hits. Nick Norton started on the mound and pitched 5.0 innings. He surrendered four runs (3 ER) on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk. C.J. Sauce was awarded the win after pitching 4.0 innings of relief. He yielded one run on one hit and struck out three batters. Carden Mellown took the mound in the start and tossed 4.2 innings and allowed four runs (1 ER) on eight hits.
Brown and Wildeboer each went 2 for 3 at the plate, while Hardee also collected two base hits. Scott finished the first game of the day with two hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored.
