MU Women's Soccer Tripped Up By Brevard, 3-2

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team fell to Brevard, 3-2, at the Monarch Soccerplex on Saturday afternoon.

With the result, the Monarchs drop to 1-6 on the year, while the Tornados move to 5-2. Despite both teams being a part of the USA South, the game did not count as a league match as Brevard continues to reclassify to Division III.

MU scored first as Capri Clark chipped the goalkeeper at the 19:34 mark, 1-0. Soon after, the Tornados tied the game as Lane Berchtold found the ball after a scrum in front of the net and scored in the 24th minute. The score held throughout the end of the half.

In the second period, the Monarchs took the lead again in the 62nd minute as Clark scored her second goal of the day on an assist by Haley Bowles. At the 68:26 mark, Brevard tied the contest again after a misplay of the ball in the defensive third led to an own goal, 2-2. The game-winning goal came at the 81:53 mark as Megan Shina took control of the ball behind the keeper who pulled up and scored in an open net, 3-2.

The Monarchs outshot BC 15-6, while both sides earned one corner kick.

Meaghan O'Meara played all 90 minutes and allowed three goals. Meanwhile, Rebecca Rojas made nine saves on the 11 shots she faced.

Methodist returns to action on Sept. 27 against Salem at the Monarch Soccerplex beginning at 5 pm.
