FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team scored a season-high seven goals and did not allow William Peace a single shot in posting a 7-0 win over the Pacers on Saturday afternoon at the Monarch SoccerPlex.
Â
Methodist (2-7, 1-1 USA South) needed fewer than 10 minutes to record its first goal as
Emily Borel's perfectly placed cross from the left side found
Sara Snotherly on the back post for a header at the 9:19 mark.
Â
Borel kicked off a stretch of three goals in fewer than four minutes when she took a cross from
Jasmine Newman, made one touch and slotted a shot past WPU (1-5, 0-2) goalkeeper Kaylea Eubanks in the 21st minute.
Capri Clark scored at 22:00 to make it 3-0, and
Caitlyn Shea's long-range shot got through Eubanks at 23:57 for a 4-0 lead that would stand until halftime.
Â
In the second period, Borel picked up her second assist of the game, once again crossing a ball from the left side, this time to
Anna Voigt for a 5-0 cushion less than a minute in.
Â
Piper Wells added a long strike of her own in the 55th minute for the sixth goal and
Miranda Gay capped the scoring off a feed from
Cheyenne Ferrin with under two minutes to play.
Â
For the game, MU held a 33-0 edge in shots, including 16-0 on goal. The Monarchs also earned 13 corner kicks to WPU's zero. Eubanks made nine saves for the Pacers.
Â
Methodist used four different keepers in the contest;
Meaghan O'Meara started and played the first 28:49.
Clare Witt,
Catie Gaughan and
Maggie Hunt all saw time in goal as well.
