Women's Hoops Falls to Pfeiffer, 74-53

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's basketball team dropped a 74-53 contest to Pfeiffer in the March F. Riddle Center on Saturday afternoon.

Kayla Goldsmith posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Kadie Snipes recorded 12 points on 4 of 9 shooting, all from beyond the arc. Kodi Centry also registered five points and eight rebounds.

The Falcons (11-1) jumped out to a 9-2 lead at the 7:58 mark of the first quarter before the Monarchs (2-14) cut the deficit to two points, 11-9, after a free throw from Amber Scott at the 3:10 mark. Both sides traded treys before a three from Sydni Bickford gave Pfeiffer a 17-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Tyzarea Alexander opened the second period with a three to bring the Monarchs within two (17-15), but the Falcons made three consecutive baskets, capped by a triple from Bickford, to take a nine-point lead at the 7:51 mark in the second. MU responded with three-straight baskets of its own and cut the lead to two points on a three by Kaneya Chambers with 5:19 remaining in the half. Despite shooting just 3 of 11 over the remaining five minutes, the Falcons mounted a 10-3 run before another three from Snipes made the halftime score 34-28 in favor of Pfeiffer.

In the third quarter, the Falcons worked their lead to 12 points (44-32) after a Kayla Whitworth jumper with 6:10 showing on the clock. The Monarchs went on a 10-4 run capped by three straight free throws from Scott to cut the lead to six points (48-42), but that is as close as it would get as the Falcons pulled away for a 74-53 victory.

For the Falcons, A'Mya McClain scored 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the field and tallied four steals, while Bickford finished with 14 points and also had four steals. Pfeiffer totaled 22 steals in the win.

The Monarchs shot 39.6 percent (19-48) from the field, including 41.2 percent (7-17) from long range, while Pfeiffer shot at a 34.6 percent clip (27-78). MU also outrebounded the Falcons by a 46-39 margin, while Pfeiffer posted 34 points off turnovers.

Methodist returns to action tomorrow against Salem in the March F. Riddle Center at 1 pm.
