Location: Monarch Soccerplex; Fayetteville, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs back line played extremely well. They were in great positioning all night long, winning interceptions, forcing deflections, and most importantly, coming out ahead in the one-on-one and two-on-two situations.
- Methodist outshot Averett 15 to 11 and the Cougars only had two shots on goal compared to nine from the Monarchs.
- Methodist's defense was particularly stifling in the first period as Averett only put up three shots.
- Despite being given 11 corner kicks, Averett failed to turn those chances into any points or even shots on target.
- Lawson Lamm set the tone for the offense when he scored a goal in the 14th minute.
- On a corner kick from Nick Bryant, Hugo Kemppainen scored the second goal for Methodist.
- The third goal was scored by Daniel Magen. Lamm delivered a perfect ground cross to Magen who tapped into the right corner behind the Averett goalkeeper.
- Even though Scott Brecke earned only two saves, Brecke made great decisions all night, regarding charges and defense on corner kicks.
BEYOND THE STATS
- It was the first goal of his career for the freshman Magen.
- Lawson Lamm was very active, registering season highs in shots and shots on goal while scoring his first goal of the season, as well.
- Brecke earned his fourth shutout of the season with this performance.
- While Methodist is now above .500 in conference play, the Cougars have yet to win a conference game.
COUGARS NOTES
- Erik Blick and David Molen were the the only two Averett players to register a shot on goal.
- Austin Bramhall earned five saves in the game.
