MU Women's Hoops Defeated by Greensboro, 67-50

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist University women's basketball team closed out its regular season with a 67-50 loss to Greensboro in the March F. Riddle Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
The game also served as the Monarchs' 12th Annual Play 4Kay game as they partner with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in an effort to raise awareness for women's cancer research.
 
Kadie Snipes and Kaneya Chambers each finished with a team-high 10 points, while Amber Scott recorded nine points on 4 of 7 shooting in 12 minutes off the bench. In addition, Scott pulled down six rebounds. Kodi Centry registered a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points and two steals.
 
The Monarchs (3-22, 3-13 USA South) took a 5-3 lead at the 6:55 mark of the first quarter before the Pride (18-6, 13-2) posted the next three baskets to pull ahead, 10-5, with 5:01 on the clock. Consecutive baskets from MU cut the lead to one point before GC embarked on a 12-2 run that went into the second period to go up 22-11.
 
In the second period, the Pride jumped ahead by 14 points (27-13) as the Monarchs used a 13-4 run over the remaining five and a half minutes of the half to work the deficit down to five points at halftime (31-26). Greensboro was held to just 2 of 10 shooting from the field over the last five minutes of the second quarter, while Methodist made 5 of 8, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.
 
A free throw from Snipes opened the second half as the Pride used a quick 8-2 run to advance the lead to 10 points (39-29) at the 6:55 mark. A trey from Chambers cut the lead down to seven points (39-32) but the Pride worked the lead to 13 points by the end of the third, holding a 49-36 lead.
 
A three by Snipes and a layup from Chambers cut the deficit 55-48 with 5:10 remaining in regulation, but Greensboro utilized a 12-2 run to close the game on its way to a 67-50 victory.
 
MU shot 38.0 percent (19-50) from the field after making 47.8 percent (11-23) of its shots in the first half. Meanwhile, GC connected on 41.8 percent (28-67) from the floor. The Monarchs outrebounded GC, 43-34, but the Pride took advantage of 30 turnovers and turned them in to 26 points.
 
For Greensboro, Rasheika Gregory and Laprecious England each totaled 12 points to lead the team. Katie Lewis tallied 11 and Domonique McCoy finished with eight points. A'Liyah Woods and Gregory each pulled down seven rebounds, while England added four assists and three steals.
 
Also for the Monarchs, Katlin Kendrick finished with six assists and four points.
