FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist baseball team earned a 4-1 win against Washington and Lee to finish a two-game series sweep at Armstrong-Shelley Field on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Monarchs have won six straight games and are now 7-1 on the season. Meanwhile, the Generals drop their third consecutive game and fall to 4-3 on the year.

W&L scored first in the opening frame after Ryan Monson doubled to right center with one out. He then scored on a two-out single by Zach Loewenberg, 1-0.

In the bottom of the inning, MU tied the game.
Matthias Carter doubled to left center to lead off the frame before coming around to score on a double by
Alex Kachler, 1-1.

The score held until the third inning when
Ethan Carmack started off with a walk, one of three on the day, and stole second base. He was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and crossed home plate on an RBI single by Kachler, 2-1.

The Generals threatened to score in the fourth inning after the first two batters of the inning reached base, but the next three batters were put down in order to strand both runners.

In the home half of the seventh,
Parker Clayton led off with an infield single to deep short and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Carmack drew a four-pitch walk to force a pitching change and both runners moved into scoring position after another sacrifice bunt from Carter.
Clay Richardson drove in Carmack on a chopper up middle and legged out a base hit, 3-1. The final run crossed home plate on a bunt from Kachler, 4-1.

For the Monarchs,
Tristen Luck (3-0), who is the reigning USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week, picked up the win after throwing 3.0 innings and allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Sam Berman took over in the fourth and tossed 3.0 scoreless innings, scattering one hit. Three more pitchers came in for MU and allowed just one hit before
Will Walker entered in the ninth to record his fourth save of the year.

Kachler finished 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and three RBI, while Carmack scored twice. Carter went 1 for 2 with two sacrifice bunts and a run scored. The Monarchs combined for seven hits and drew four walks in the win.

Mason Shuffler (0-1) was strapped with the loss after pitching 2.2 innings and giving up two runs on three hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Murphy threw 3.1 innings on the hill and held the Monarchs to two hits.

Loewenberg was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Monson scored the lone run. W&L was held to four hits in the contest, which is a season low.

Methodist opens USA South play with a three-game series against William Peace beginning on Friday, Feb. 22, at Armstrong-Shelley Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6 pm.
