RALEIGH, N.C. — The Methodist women's lacrosse team fell at Meredith 21-5 on Wednesday evening.

The Monarchs (4-4, 3-1 USA South) fell victim to a 12-1 scoring run by the Avenging Angels (6-3, 4-0) from the 14:41 mark of the first half to the 18:24 mark of the second half as Meredith turned a 4-3 lead into a 16-4 advantage. 

Holly Hite scored twice for Meredith in the first 2:39 for an early 2-0 lead. Emily Brennen got MU on the board at the 26:13 mark to make it 2-1 before MC's Carlee Joseph made it 3-1 with 19:37 left in the first half. 

Monti Hendrix kept MU close, scoring at the 18:31 mark to make it 3-2. Hite's third goal of the contest put the score at 4-2, Brennen tallied her second goal of the contest at the 15:10 mark to pull the Monarchs within one goal (4-3) once again. 

From there however, the Avenging Angels outscored MU 7-1 to close out the first half for an 11-4 lead at the break, then opened the second half with five more goals as they began to pull away. 

Meredith outshot MU, 45-12, and forced 25 turnovers while committing just 13. The Avenging Angels also won 18 of 27 draw controls and were a perfect 11 for 11 clearing the ball. 

Brennen (2g), Hendrix (2g) and Madison Ronelli (1g/1a) all finished with two points for MU. Hendrix added four draw controls and seven ground balls, while Ronelli had three draw controls, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Molly O'Hara made 12 saves for in goal for the Monarchs. 

Lila Cruz led MC with nine points (5g/4a), and Hite finished with four goals and three assists and added 11 draw controls. 

The Monarchs travel to Averett on Saturday for a 12 pm contest.
