GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The No. 13 Methodist baseball team picked up its fourth straight win as it defeated Guilford 10-4 at Edgar McBane Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Monarchs improve to 14-2 on the season, while the Quakers drop to 4-6-1 overall.

MU scored twice in the first inning after
Alex Kachler reached on a two-out single and
Will May drew a walk. Both runners came around to score on a two-run double by
Tucker Criswell, 2-0. In the following inning,
Jacob Austin reached on a bunt base hit and moved to second on a throwing error before taking third on a sacrifice bunt by
Parker Clayton. Austin scored on a fielder's choice by
Elliot Manley on a play at the plate, 3-0. Manley advanced to third after a single by
Matthias Carter and scored on an infield single by
Clay Richardson, 4-0.

In the third inning, the Monarchs scored two runs yet again after
Davis Cass walked, stole second and moved to third on a ground out. He crossed home plate on a passed ball to put the Green and Gold up 5-0. Clayton and Manley both walked as Clayton came around to score on a two-out RBI single from Carter, 6-0.

The Quakers cut the deficit in the home half of the third frame, including one on a wild pitch and a pair of runs on a two-out, two-run double by Trevor Denton, 6-3.

Carter started off the sixth inning by reaching on a fielding error and eventually scored on an RBI triple by Kachler, 7-3. Kachler scored on the following at-bat as he came across home plate on a ground out, 8-3. MU scored another run in the seventh as Austin singled to start the inning and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Monarchs added one more insurance run in the eighth as Kachler reached on an error and stole a bae before scoring on a groundout, 10-3. Guilford added one run back in the home half of the eighth with a run off a wild pitch, 10-4.

Tristen Luck started on the mound and tossed 3.0 innings and yielded three runs on four hits.
Sam Berman tossed the next 2.0 inning and did not allow a run on one hit to pick up his first win of the season.
Hunter Barnes and
Thomas Dean closed out the final 4.0 innings to seal the win.

For Guilford, Parker Brann was strapped with the loss after giving up five runs on five hits with two walks. Seven pitchers took the hill for the Quakers.

Carter and Kachler each went 3 for 5 at the plate, while Kachler drove in a run and scored three times. Criswell drove in two and totaled two hits and Austin also had two hits with two runs scored. MU combined for 12 hits and also stole five bases in the win

Rocco Wilcox and Denton each had two hits in the loss.

Methodist returns to action on Friday, March 9, to kick off a three-game series with Berea at Armstrong-Shelley Field beginning at 3 pm.
