LaGRANGE, Ga. -- The No. 1 seed Methodist baseball team fell to N.C. Wesleyan, 2-1, in its first game of the day before coming back to defeat Ferrum, 10-5, to advance in the USA South Baseball Tournament on Thursday.

In their second game of the day, the Monarchs (27-8) trailed the Panthers (15-8) 1-0 after the first inning. MU responded in the second inning with a four run inning, which was started by
Parker Clayton who drew a two-out walk.
Elliot Manley legged out a bunt single before
Matthias Carter singled to score Clayton.
Ethan Carmack followed with another RBI single before a wild pitch scored Carter.
Alex Kachler drove in the fourth run of the frame with a triple to right center to put the Monarchs up 4-1.

In the third inning, Ferrum registered four hits and scored three runs to tie the contest. The score remained tied until a five-run inning for the Monarchs gave them a 9-5 advantage. Much like the second inning, Clayton started the rally with a walk, while Manley followed by running out a bunt single and Carter singled in Clayton, 5-4. Carmack also singled to score a run and Kachler flew out to advance both runners into scoring position.
Will May drove in a run on a ground out and
Tucker Criswell singled to score Carmack, 8-4.
Davis Cass laced a double to left field to score he final run of the inning.

Garrett Dorton led off the fifth inning with a solo homer to cut the lead down to 9-5, but MU manufactured a run in the fifth to set the score to 10-5.

Thomas Dean (2-0) pitched 4.1 innings of relief to earn the victory. He allowed one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Tristen Luck started on the hill and went 2.2 innings and surrendered four runs on six hits.
Kevin Williams and
Will Walker entered to pitch the final two frames and combined to allow two hits with two strikeouts.

Drwe Calohan (4-2) was strapped with the loss after allowing all 10 runs on 12 hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Luke Bryant pitched the final 3.2 innings after the Panthers used four pitchers in the fifth inning.

Carmack and Kachler were each 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBI, while Carmack scored twice. Manley reached base three times on bunt base hits and scored two runs. Cater was 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

In the first game of the day against N.C. Wesleyan, the Battling Bishops scored in the first inning on an attempted double play to take a 1-0 lead. Brandon Wheat laced an RBI single to the left side of the infield to add an insurance run, which is all they needed. Criswell scored on an RBI single by Clayton in the sixth inning, but the Monarchs could not get another run on the board as it fell to the "losers bracket" of the USA South Tournament.

Seth Beard was saddled with the loss after tossing 7.0 innings and allowing just two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.
Logan Haines finished out the game and did not allow a run. Meanwhile, Drew Tubb picked up his fifth win of the year in 8.1 innings of work. He yielded just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Methodist returns to action on Friday, April 13, with a 3pm contest against Piedmont at Cleaveland Stadium.
