FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist University softball team closed the 2018 season with a doubleheader against No. 4 Randolph-Macon at Price Field on Monday afternoon.

The Monarchs (8-32) dropped the first game of the twinbill, 8-0 in five innings, before falling to the Yellow Jackets (24-2) 7-0 in the night cap.

In game one, R-MC plated three runners in the opening frame to take a 3-0 lead. Shelby Hill drove in two runs before coming around to score on a throwing error, 3-0. The visitors added one more in the second on a bunt single before adding two more in the third, 6-0. Randolph-Macon brought in two more runs in the fifth on back-to-back singles, 8-0.

Carleigh Haywood registered the lone hit for the Monarchs in the first game of the day.

Two Yellow Jackets had multi-hit performances, including Savannah Wood who was 2 for 3 with three RBI. Kerstin Roth was 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Miranda McKoy (4-3) started on the mound and tossed 1.0 inning. She allowed four runs (3 ER) on two hits two strikeouts and three walks.
Aly Thomas finished the game in the circle. Madie Rhoads picked up her eighth win of the year in a complete- game, one-hit shutout.

In game two, Hill tripled to lead off the fourth inning and scored on a sac fly by Brittany LaPrade, 1-0, before a two-run fifth frame gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 advantage. R-MC added another four runs in the sixth to set the final score of 7-0.

The Monarchs were held to five hits, including a two-out single by
Morgan Faircloth in her final collegiate at-bat.
Searria Fisher and
Chloe Hespeler each recorded a double.

Brittany Jones (1-9) pitched 5.2 inning and scattered 11 hits. She yielded seven runs (2 ER) and struck out one. Thomas threw the final 1.1 inning and gave up no runs on four hits. Kayley Scott (6-0) pitched a complete game shutout and struck out seven.
