MU Women's Lax Downs Pride, 22-8

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist University women's lacrosse team moved past Greensboro with a 22-8 victory at Monarch Stadium on Saturday morning.
 
The Monarchs (7-7, 6-2 USA South) opened the scoring just 19 seconds into the contest as Monti Hendrix gave MU a 1-0 lead. Kaelyn Holland scored at the 28:32 mark before Madison Ronelli put the Monarchs up 3-0 less than 30 second later. Methodist took a 5-0 lead under five minutes into the game as Sarah Ewin and Holland tallied goals before Peyton Joyce put the Pride (9-7, 6-3) on the board with 24:22 left in the first half.
 
Ronelli kicked off another 5-0 scoring run for the Monarchs at the 23:46 mark, which was her first of two goals in the three-minute stretch. Ewin capped the run at the 20:46 mark with an assist by Hendrix as MU went up 10-1. Five minutes later, Joyce scored her second of the game to cut the deficit to eight (10-2) with 14:52 on the clock.
 
The Pride scored two of the next three goals, including a strike by Kara Whitson with an assist by Joyce, at the 11:34 mark to set the score at 11-4. The Monarchs rattled off three goals in under two minutes and Holland added another score to increase the lead to 15-4 with 6:22 left in the half. GC scored once more as it went into halftime trailing 15-5.
 
The Monarchs scored the first three goals of the second period to go up 18-5 before the Pride scored three of the next four to cut into the lead, 19-8, which was as close as they would get as MU tallied three more goals on its way to a 22-8 win.
 
For the Monarchs, Hendrix (5g/2a) and Ronelli (7g) each finished with seven points, while Hendrix registered six draw controls and two caused turnovers. Ronelli picked up four ground balls and four draw controls. Holland recorded four goals, while Emily Brennen finished with three goals, which all came in the second half. Ewin finished with three points on two goals and an assist and had five draw controls, three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. Sydney Bonner also scored in the win.
 
Joyce totaled seven points on seven points on six goals and an assist, while collecting two draw controls and a ground ball. Madison Blashaw and Whitson each had one goal and Laine Walston registered an assist. Stef Robba and Natalie Ritchey each picked up three ground balls.
 
Molly O'Hara made four saves in all 60 minutes in the cage, while Stephanie Carr also stopped four shots and allowed 22 goals.

MU outshot GC 38-13, while hold an 18-16 edge in ground balls and a 20-11 advantage in draw controls.
 
Methodist returns to action tomorrow, April 8, for Senior Day against LaGrange at Monarch Stadium beginning at 12 pm.
