Snipes, Kendrick Lead Monarchs in Loss at Bob Jones

GREENVILLE, S.C.  On the road for the first time this season, Methodist women's basketball was undone by a big first half by host Bob Jones University, with the Bruins winning the non-conference matchup against the Monarchs, 81-54, Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bob Jones went 8-of-11 from behind the arc in the first half to take a 50-20 lead into halftime.
  • Madison Shupe made four consecutive three-pointers in the first quarter en route to a 18-8 lead.
  • It was a trey-ball barrage in the first frame. Kadie Snipes opened the game with a three. Kendrick's shot behind the arc cut a Methodist deficit to 9-6 and Snipes added another three in the frame.
  • Shupe started the second quarter with a three-ball and the Bruins added two more through the second quarter.  The Bruins reeled off a 17-2 run, scoring 24 points to the Monarchs' 6 in the quarter.
  • In the second half, Methodist actually outscored Bob Jones 34-31. The Monarchs' perimeter defense stiffened, holding Bob Jones to 3-of-13 behind the arc in the final half. Meanwhile, the Monarch perimeter offense went four-of-nine from deep in the half.
  • Methodist's best scoring sequence was a 11-2 run to start the fourth quarter with Jada Andrews and Tyzarea Alexander accounting for eight points and Snipes connecting from deep.

STAT FACTS
  • The second quarter made all the difference as Methodist shot 1-of-13 from the field in the frame compared to the Bruins shooting 9-of-15 from the field.
  • Snipes and Kendrick led the team with 11 points each. Kendrick had a team-high three assists.
  • Jazanae Billing's five rebounds was a team-high.
  • Zytipha Joines had seven points off the bench.
  • Shupe had 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
