JUST THE FACTS
What: USA South Athletic Conference Tournament, quarterfinals
Final score: Maryville (Tenn.) def. Methodist, 4-0
Records: Methodist 8-7-1, Maryville 13-4
Location: Maryville, Tenn.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 2-0 in the 32nd minute, the Monarchs best chance to put a goal on the scoreboard was a Laura Harris rocket that hit off the crossbar. Harris intercepted the ball after a poor Maryville touch and placed a shot that beat the out-of-position keeper but the shot ricocheted off the crossbar. Harris had another promising look after a goal kick but her shot was blocked and the two Haley Bowles corner kicks that succeeded Harris were defended without Methodist being able to register a shot off the opportunity.
- In the 40th minute, Harris put up the first shot on target for Methodist but Maryville earned the save. Bowles followed with another shot on frame in the 44th minute but the Scots earned the save once more.
- Shannon Reagan scored the first goal of the game in the 7th minute after a low cross into the goal area from Taylor Rizen. Jenna Clothier added a second Maryville goal at the 13th minute mark, scoring directly off of a free kick that was just too high for Maggie Hunt.
- The Monarchs put up two more shots on target in the second half which resulted in Maryville saves while the Scots padded their lead with two more goals in the last 45 minutes.
