HOW IT HAPPENED
- The early game saw Methodist rally from a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the third inning, before rallying from a 5-3 deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.
- St. Andrews' Brennan Broadway pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the frame with a one-out sacrifice fly to center field.
- Carleigh Haywood, Blythe Best and Bethany Junker each singled in Methodist's third inning, helping the Monarchs push three across the plate for their first lead of the game.
- The seventh-inning rally was a grind-it-out half-inning for the Monarchs who scored twice while producing just one hit, a single by Samantha Jacobs, and getting the go-ahead run on Lindsey Champion's sac fly to center.
- A Best single drove in Ashley Benge, who had drawn a lead-off walk, in the Methodist half of the third inning of Game 2, erasing a 1-0 early deficit.
- A five-run third by St. Andrews broke the tie, and a three-run fourth pushed the Knights' advantage to eight, at 9-1.
- Haley Campbell worked for a lead-off walk in the top of the fifth but was left stranded at first, enabling the eight-run rule to end the game early.
- Brittany Jones pitched 6 and 2/3s innings in the opener, taking the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits, but without giving up a base on balls and notching one strikeout.
- Jordyn Propst started Game 2 in the circle, lasting 2 and 2/3s and surrendering six runs on six hits. Champion came on in relief in the third for the final out, and later game up three runs in her 1 and a 1/3 innings.
IN THE BOX
- Best and Junker collected two hits apiece for the Monarchs in the opener, with Junker picking up a pair of RBIs and Best chipping in with the other RBI.
- Haywood showed discipline at the plate during Game 1, drawing a pair of walks and picking up a single in her other at-bat.
- St. Andrews handcuffed the Methodist batters in the night cap, limiting the visitors to just two hits. Four different players worked for one base on balls each, though, but the potential for damage from those baserunners was realized.
- S.K. Brown earned the pitching victory in the opener while also picking up an RBI. She added three more RBIs on two hits in Game 2.
- Broadway notched the game-winning RBI in the first game, then padded her stats with three RBI, two runs and one hit in the nightcap.
