FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.
Will Walker pitched 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball and Methodist downed North Carolina Wesleyan, 9-3, in a USA South Athletic Conference matchup Friday night.
A 3-1 Battling Bishops lead lasted only an inning before the Monarchs scored four runs in the third and cruised to the victory.
Walker was excellent in relief, allowing no runs and only four hits with four strikeouts. Meanwhile
Jacob Austin led Methodist at the plate with three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored, all team-highs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- N.C. Wesleyan used five hits (four singles and a double) to score three runs in the second inning.
- The Monarchs countered the Bishops with four runs off of five hits, including a Tucker Criswell double and a two-RBI single from Clay Richardson, in the bottom of the third.
- Methodist provided the nail-in-the-coffin with a three-run seventh inning to take a commanding 9-3 lead. With only one hit in the frame, the Monarchs were aided by three errors by the Bishops in consecutive at-bats.
- The game started on a high note for Methodist with Matthias Carter hitting a lead-off double, a sacrifice bunt from Jacob Austin, and a sacrifice fly from Alex Kachler to score Carter.
STAT FACTS
- Seven different Monarchs scored a run and six different players registered a hit. Parker Clayton was the other Methodist player with at least two hits and Criswell tied for the team-high with two runs scored and two RBIs.
- Trey Croom and Logan Andrews led the Bishops with two hits a piece while Luke Mills did his best in 4.1 innings of relief, giving up only one hit and no earned runs (three unearned).
- This is only third time this season that the Monarchs did not draw a walk at all in a game. Conversely, Methodist has four games with at least ten walks.

- In a conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., the Monarchs and the Battling Bishops finish up the remaining two games of the series at Armstrong-Shelley Field.
