HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist swept the doubles then picked up the penultimate point with Ashton Walker's straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.
  • The match-clinching point was provided by Taylor Jackson at 3-singles, with an identical straight-set shutout.
  • Walker and Abby Caddick quickly gained the first point of the afternoon for the Monarchs, taking an 8-1 win from Carter Dickinson and McKennah Francis at 2-doubles.
  • Allison Himes and Sydni Lewis eventually broke away from Savannah Bain and Kaleigh Basillo at No. 3, downing the Scots' pair, 8-4.
  • The sweep in doubles did not come easy, as Jackson and Jill Lawrence twice battled back from three-game deficits at 1-doubles, including a 3-0 start by Anastasia Dunn and Kayla Zimmerman.
  • Eventually the Monarch tandem rallied to lead 7-6, but the Scots held serve to square the match and force a tiebreaker set.
  • Jackson and Lawrence bolted in front with the first three points before Dunn and Zimmerman would score, but it only delayed the outcome as the Methodist pair won the tiebreak, 7-3.

UP NEXT
  • The Monarchs will meet Piedmont College in the semifinal round on Saturday afternoon.
  • Ranked 19th in the Atlantic South region, the West Division top-seeded Lions defeated Meredith College, 5-0, in a Friday first-round matchup in LaGrange.
