FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Brittany Jones treated fans to an amazing spectacle and Methodist softball entertained with a pair of a 4-3 wins over visiting Messiah College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. Both games featured a Methodist walk-off and Game 1 actually needed an eighth inning to decide a victor.
Brittany Jones accomplished something that had not been done by a Methodist pitcher in nearly a decade. In the first game against Messiah, B. Jones registered an incredible 11 strikeouts to become the first pitcher since
Alex Bass in March 2010 to cross the double-digit threshold.
At the plate, freshmen phenoms Tsapp and
Maria Kollar led the Monarchs offensively. Tsapp went three-for-four with two RBIs in Game 1 and
Maria Kollar went a perfect three-for-three with an RBI in the next game.

Records: Methodist 5-1; Messiah 0-2
Location: Don Price Field; Fayetteville, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs found themselves trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth after the Falcons managed to score the runner placed on second. Methodist quickly returned the game back to a tie following a Taylor Jacobs' single that scored Reagan Parks from third. Sarah Davis came in as a pinch runner and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt before Tsapp's game-winning double.
- Slow and steady won Game 2 as Methodist put up on a run in each of the contest's final three innings.
- In addition to the first game, Davis also was the winning run in Game 2. She singled to lead off the seventh and scored after an error on the Falcons' first baseman advanced her from second.
- Trailing 1-0, the Monarchs finally got on the board in the sixth inning of Game 1. Bases loaded after two singles and a Falcons' error, Kelsey Smith delivered with a single to score Bethany Junker. Tsapp followed with a base hit to score Kollar to put Methodist ahead 2-1. However, a fielder's choice and a out at homeplate left the Monarchs unable to capitalize further.
- Messiah took advantage of their second chance and forced extra innings. McKenzie Tebbs led off the seventh with a single and was on third after two straight sacrifice bunts. She became the equalizing run after a hit from Olivia Denmark.
- Methodist had to rally in the second game after Messiah scored three runs off of four hits and two errors in the third inning.
