WILSON, N.C. Methodist's Division III men's tennis team traveled to D-II Barton College for a concurrent doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, with the Bulldogs sweeping the day by scores of 7-0 and 4-3.
JUST THE FACTS

Records: Methodist 0-9, Barton 6-1
Location: Barton Tennis Complex; Wilson, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Playing under the D-I and -II scoring system, in which the three doubles matches are scored as one point in a best-of-three manner, Barton swept doubles action in each match to head into singles play with the lead.
- The Bulldogs poured it on in one of the separate matches, going on to sweep the six singles bouts for a 7-0 match victory, but the other match went down to the wire, decided in fact by that lone doubles point.
- Patrick Newsome recorded a 6-1, 7-5 win at 5-singles, and Alex Lycan's 4 and 4 win at No. 6 provided another point for the visiting Monarchs.
- Barton won in straight sets at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 -- for a clinching fourth point -- but Henry Blanco battled on in the 1-singles match.
- Blanco won the opening set, 7-5, but the Bulldogs' Alfredo Huamani bounced back with a solid 6-2 win in the second to even the match.
- The deciding third set, though, was a 6-3 win by Blanco that earned one last Monarch point in the narrowest of losses.
