HOW IT HAPPENED
- The early match was the 1 p.m. start at home against the Rams. Jillian Garrett and Bri Rado claimed the opening point of the match, taking their No. 3 bout by a score of 8-1.
- The eventual sweep continued with Taylor Jackson and Victoria Trevino surrendering just two games at 2-doubles, and Abby Caddick and Jill Lawrence posting an 8-6 win at the No. 1 spot.
- In a match rarity, Caddick ended up scoring consecutive points, coming off her doubles court to then race through a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.
- Lawrence, Valeria Matute, Megan Kidd and Bri Rado took straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6, while Garrett battled back from dropping her first set at 3-singles to sweep her second and third sets for the victory.
- It was the same story in Roanoke as the Monarchs started strongly, winning the three doubles matches while surrendering just a total of six games.
- Catherine Smith ignited the string of straight-set victories in singles action, winning her No. 5 match with an almost perfect score of 6-1, 6-0.
- In succession, Casey Carroll at No. 4, Sydney Bird at No. 6 with the actual match-clinching point, Natalie Collins at 3, Kamdyn Balko at No. 2 and Alex Pratt at 1-singles each put away their Hollins opponents in just two sets.
