FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Sarena Pillow's three goals against visiting Transylvania University were a team-high and also a personal best in her short women's lacrosse career as Methodist dropped the non-conference game against the Pioneers, 16-5, Tuesday afternoon.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Transylvania def. Methodist, 16-5
Records: Methodist 2-3, Transylvania 3-2
Location: Monarch Stadium; Fayetteville, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pillow finally got the Monarchs on the board early in the second half after she won the draw control and did it herself by scoring an unassisted goal.
- Pillow's nine draw control wins helped the gap from widening further as the Pioneers recorded just one more draw control win (12) than did the Monarchs (11).
- Two more of her draw control wins led to Methodist goals. Taylor Mustian (with an assist from Rosa Williams) scored a goal following a Pillow draw control win. After Mustian's goal, Pillow again won the draw control and was gifted a free position attempt, which she promptly converted into a score.
- The post came between Pillow and her fourth potential goal. It was a good look for Pillow, and was preceded by Sam Short's draw control win.
- Three other draw control wins from Pillow resulted in four shots attempts, including consecutive free position opportunities.
STAT FACTS
- Pillow's five shots (three on target) led the team.
- Ally Nagel recorded the other Methodist goal. Her four ground ball recoveries were tied for the team-high with Jem Golombeski.
- Golombeski recorded seven saves for the day.
- Transylvania had a 26-13 edge in shots taken, including a 17-1 differential in the first half for shots on target.
