NORFOLK, Va. The Methodist men's basketball start their season with a loss, 73-50, to the #15 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at Virginia Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament Friday afternoon.
Leading the way for the Monarchs was senior
Dante Burden with a game-high 21 points and three rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kevin McLaughlin Jr. scored the first two points to start the 2021-22 Methodist season, with a layup. After trading a few buckets for a score of 6-4 in favor of the Eagles, La Crosse went on a 16-0 run before the Monarchs recorded their next point.
- An 8-0 run by Methodist brought them back with 12, 29-17, with Burden scoring four of those points. The Eagles though would finish out the first half on an 8-3 run for a 37-20 half time score.
- The second half started with each side trading six points apiece before the Monarchs scored another six straight points to make it 45-31, with J'Quan Deal scoring four of the six.
- Majority of the second half saw each side going back and forth with exchanging buckets. La Crosse would eventually push their lead to a 20 point difference as the game came to a close.
STAT FACTS
- Deal was the only other Monarch player in double digits with 10 points.
- Methodist went 0-14 from the three point line while the Eagles shot 42.9%, 9-21.
- James Wilds III led the team in rebounds with five and chipped in three points, in his first career game.
- Ethan Anderson led La Crosse with a team-high 18 points and collected four rebounds, while dishing out five assists.

November 6, the Monarchs will play their second game of the Virginia Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament against USA foe North Carolina Wesleyan College in non-conference action. Tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
