Broncos Push Pass Monarchs in Second Half

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist men's basketball second half shooting struggles resulted in a 71-46 non-conference road loss to city rival Fayetteville State University this Saturday afternoon at Felton J. Chapel Arena.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Fayetteville State def. Methodist, 71-46
Records: Methodist 1-9, Fayetteville State 5-5
Location: Felton J. Chapel Arena; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game started with the two teams matching point for point in the first seven and half minutes. A layup by Derrick Newberry would give an 11-9 lead to the Monarchs.
  • Back-to-back threes from the Broncos put them ahead 15-11 with under 11 minutes left in the first half. Methodist tied the contest at 17-17 after Clayton Coe knocked a three-pointer.
  • About two minutes later, Kevin McLaughlin Jr. hit his own three to put the Monarchs up 22-21. With less than a minute left until the break, Fayetteville State reclaimed their advantage with another three before Chris George made one last jumper to make it 29-28, in favor of Methodist, before time expired.
  • George scored the first three points for the Monarchs to begin the second half than Methodist went on a scoring drought for the next six minutes. During that time, the Broncos scored 11 unanswered points to go up 41-32. Brone Brinson finally made the next good field goal for the Monarchs with a layup at 13:19.
  • Fayetteville State would use another 10-0 run to balloon their advantage to a 17 points difference in the next four minutes. Methodist tried to cut into the deficit but every time the team made a shot the Broncos would answer right back. A final 8-0 run by Fayetteville State pushed their lead to over 20 points to close out the contest.
MORE TO IT
  • Leading the way for the Monarchs were seniors McLaughlin Jr. and George, respectively with 14 and 10 points. Jalen Seegars of the Broncos led all scorers with 21 points, all off the bench.
