FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist men's basketball got its revenge by defeating visiting Greensboro College, 70-65, in USA South Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon. The win serves as retribution after Friday's road loss to the Pride.
Garren Dearman and
Chris George dominated, powering the Monarchs with 40 points combined. Dearman had a game-high 23 points and four blocks, along with nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals. George notched new season-high totals with 17 points, 14 rebounds (including six offensive boards), and seven field goals made.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After cutting the deficit to six points several times in the second half, Greensboro finally seemed to have a breakthrough with a tip-in basket from Amillia Huggins, which made it a 66-62 score game with 1:12 remaining.
- Dearman promptly returned the game to a six-point contest with 48 ticks left thanks to his bucket on the next Methodist possession. Meanwhile, on the ensuing Pride possession, Greyson Collins' attempt to make it a three-point game failed and Kevin McLaughlin Jr. earned the rebound and made one of two free throws to effectively ice the game.
- The Monarchs' largest lead of the game came in the first half when a steal and basket from Dante Burden extended their lead to 34-19 en route to a 41-30 halftime advantage.
THE NUMBERS
- Burden had a balanced diet, leading the team in assists (six) and steals (five) while adding 12 points and five boards.
- McLaughlin Jr. had eight points and four steals. J'Quan Deal, who missed Friday's game, provided Methodist with seven points and six rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.
- The Monarchs' advantage in points in the paint (42-18) and at the charity stripe (33 attempts compared to 15 for the Pride) made up for the fact that Methodist made just one three-point attempt compared to 12 makes for Greensboro.
- Greyson Collins had a double-double for the Pride with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
