FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Lightning and weather conditions made for a unique experience for Methodist women's lacrosse as the total running time of the contest was over 4 hours as visiting Meredith defeated the Monarchs, 22-1, in USA South Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
After three postponements to league contests, the Monarchs finally began conference play with a matchup against the six-time defending USA South champions. The Avenging Angels were picked to finish first in the East Division again this season, according to the pre-conference coaches poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lightning delayed the game for nearly 90 minutes. The game resumed with 22 minutes remaining in the contest and Meredith leading 19-1. The Avenging Angels scored thrice more and the two teams played for another 10 minutes before the game was called and considered finalized with 11:59 remaining.
- Meredith pounced from the opening whistle, scoring the game's first seven goals, including the first four in the first three minutes.
- Keegan Foyles scored the Monarchs' lone goal of the game off of a free-position attempt. Foyles bounced the ball between the keeper's legs for the score.
- Jem Golombeski had seven saves in the net.
- The two teams played to a near-tie in draw controls in the first half with the Avenging Angels winning nine and the Monarchs taking eight. Rosa Williams led Methodist with four draw controls and Ainsley McGinn added two.
- Meredith owned a 39-10 advantage in shots taken and had less turnovers (seven) than the Monarchs (18). Methodist did cut down on its turnovers in the second half, committing only three turnovers.
