FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The early-season non-conference slate continued for Methodist women's tennis Saturday afternoon, when the Division III Monarchs welcomed D-II Chowan University to Clayton Tennis Center where the Hawks earned a 7-2 victory over their hosts.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Chowan def. Methodist, 7-2
Records: Methodist 3-3, Chowan 1-1
Location: Clayton Tennis Center; Fayetteville, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Doubles action was a hard afternoon for the Monarchs who dropped a pair of 8-0 decisions at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots. Valeria Matute and Kamdyn Balko picked up a point for Methodist at 3-doubles with a win by default.
- Other than a default win at No. 6 singles for Matute, Chowan swept singles play, though not without a fight from the Monarch singles players.
- Abby Caddick dropped her first set to Arina Karbolina at No. 1, but bounced back for a 6-4 win in the second to square the match. Karbolina reversed that score in the deciding third, however, to grab the point for the Hawks.
- Similarly, Methodist's Natalie Collins fell behind after the first set at 5-singles before evening things up with a 7-5 win in the second. Asuntha Fleming rallied back in the third for a 6-3 set and match win for Chowan.
- At No. 4 it was Olivia Ward on court for the Monarchs. She captured the opening set, 6-3, but dropped the second and third, 6-3 and 7-5, for another Hawks point.
