THE ESSENTIALS

Records: Methodist 4-6, Pfeiffer 3-3
Location: Armstrong-Shelley Field; Fayetteville, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In Game 1, Methodist took advantage of Falcons errors. In the fifth inning, a Pfeiffer error resulted in pinch runner Zachary Ritter advancing from first base to third before scoring on a sacrifice bunt from Christian Yarbrough. Methodist went ahead 2-1 in the sixth when a Falcons' error on a Jacob Austin sacrifice bunt led to Ryan Hill scoring from second and Austin advancing to third.
- Four innings of scoreless baseball were broken up by a Pfeiffer run in the top of the fourth of Game 1. With the bases loaded, Brady Parker singled to score one run. The next out occurred at home plate and a groundout for out number three prevented the Falcons from adding to their total.
- Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning in Game 2, the Monarchs' opportunity to tie the game ended with the bases loaded. In the next half-inning, Pfeiffer scored five runs, including a three-run home run to take a 10-2 lead.
- Will Dagenhart provided a spark for Methodist in the form of a three-RBI triple to left field in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the deficit to 10-5.
STAT FACTS
- Austin had two hits in the second game, a team-high. Hill and Rob Wilkerson had a hit in each game.
- Pfeiffer is probably lamenting its missed chances in the first game. They left eight runners stranded, including six in scoring position and the Falcons managed just one run from two bases loaded situations.
