Marlinghaus, Williams Score for Monarchs in Loss at Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C.  Playing host to Methodist women's lacrosse, Meredith University continued its remarkable run through USA South Athletic Conference opponents with a 24-2 win over the Monarchs Wednesday evening.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Meredith def. Methodist, 24-2
Records: Methodist 4-6 (2-4 USA South), Meredith 9-2 (6-0)
Location: Meredith Athletic Field; Raleigh, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Meredith had an eight-goal lead after just six minutes. Rosa Williams finally put the Monarchs on the board with 23:35 remaining in the first half. The score was set up by a Taylor Mustian draw control win.
  • Draw control wins came few and far between for Methodist as the Avenging Angels dominated the draws, 22-6, and subsequently, possession, and the game. Meredith had a 35-6 advantage in shots taken and a 15-7 edge in ground balls recovered.
  • Tia Marlinghaus' goal in the second half halted a 13-goal run by Meredith. That score made it a 21-2 game with 19:06 left in the game. Williams added another shot on net in the second half, along with Morgan Eggleston.
  • Ainsley McGinn and Mikayla Ramos had two ground balls. Jalessa Batchelor and Mustian had two draw controls.
  • Prior to this contest, the Avenging Angels had already clinched their fifth straight regular season championship and they are looking for their seventh consecutive league tournament title.
