FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women's tennis finished out its regular-season schedule with a victory, rolling to an 8-1 USA South Athletic Conference win Sunday afternoon over visiting Mary Baldwin University.
With that result, the Monarchs locked themselves into the No. 2 seed of the conference's East Divisional Championship where they will face top seed and host North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday, April 24.
Due to ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, the league altered the normal postseason schedule, limiting the 2021 postseason to only the top two teams in each division. The East and West will play divisional championships with the winners moving on to a conference championship match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mary Baldwin brought a shortened roster to the Clayton Center, forfeiting the No. 3 doubles point to Methodist's Jill Lawrence and Casey Carroll, and the Nos. 5 and 6 singles points to Luciana Forma and Sydney Bird, respectively.
- With that 3-0 lead before matches tossed up for their first serves, the Monarchs needed just two points to clinch a victory and earned both of those points with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles slots.
- First to finish was the 2-doubles pairing of Abby Caddick and Sydni Lewis, downing their Fighting Squirrels opponents by an 8-0 score. Soon after, the 1-doubles tandem of Toni Laney and Taylor Jackson earned the match-clinching fifth point with their own 8-0 victory.
- Singles action brought about four matches on the Tennis Center courts, with Olivia Ward finishing first, shutting out MBU's Alexis Seymore, 6-0 and 6-0, at No. 1.
- Natalie Collins, 1 and 0, at No. 2 then Casey Carrol, 0 and 1, at No. 3 added the next two points for Methodist.
- Mary Baldwin's Samantha Childs fought off a challenge from Imani Bellamy at 4-singles to earn the Fighting Squirrels their lone point of the afternoon, winning 6-4 and 6-1.
