Drinkard Adds Academic All-America Honor

8/4/2021 12:04:00 PM

AUSTIN, Texas  The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday afternoon released its 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division III At-Large Teams, with Methodist University women's golfer Jillian Drinkard earning first-team honors on the list selected by D-III sports information directors from across the country.

A junior majoring in business administration with a 3.86 grade-point average, Drinkard had previously (July 8, 2021) earned a CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team Women's At-Large selection, automatically advancing her onto the Academic All-America® ballot.

Postseason honors have been piling up for Drinkard following a stellar junior campaign.

The inaugural USA South Athletic Conference 2021 women's player of the year, league tournament champion and first-team all-conference honoree, Drinkard would go on to earn Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) 2021 D-III Player of the Year, first-team All-American, all-region, and Scholar All-American (third time) honors. She was one of six finalists for the D-III Honda Athlete of the Year award (final winner not selected in 2021).

At Methodist, Drinkard was voted the athletic department's Mason Sykes Cup winner, presented annually to the University's top student-athlete.

In seven events at which the Monarchs participated in the 2020-21 schedule, Drinkard captured individual medalist honors five times. At one of those events, the Montgomery (Ala.) Country Club Invitational, she tied the record for program-low round with a 66 on her way to the Invitational victory.

Finishing in the top three at all seven events, Drinkard closed out the 2020-21 season with a third-place finish -- tied with teammate Ingrid Steingrimsen -- at the NCAA D-III Women's Golf Championship, helping lead the Monarchs to their 26th national title.

Within the elite Methodist program's record book, Drinkard will carry into her senior season the record for best season scoring average (73.95, 2020-21) and career scoring average (75.4), and is tied for top honors in career wins (7) and season wins (5, 2020-21). With 9 career par or better rounds, she is just three rounds from equaling the program record of 12 (Katie Dick, 2005-08).
