HOW IT HAPPENED
- A back-and-forth of swapping points was how the game started between the Monarchs and the Falcons. Trinity Ross knocked down a mid-range jumper just before Pfeiffer took a nine-point lead, making it their largest lead for the game. A lay-up by Aneesa Irizarry closed the quarter, Falcons up 21-14.
- Thirty-seconds into the second, Jillian Peterson hit a jumper inside the paint, closing the gap to five. Minutes later into the period, the Falcons went up by nine for a second time, but Methodist slowly shaved away at Pfeiffer's lead. Two free throws from Irizarry along with a lay-up from Aniyah Tate helped close the gap to two. The Falcons now up 28-26 with just under four minutes to go in the second quarter. Tay Taborn's lone free throw tied the game 30-30 going into the half.
- Tate started the third hot, her two back-to-back lay-ups off a steal from Irizarry, gave the Monarchs their first lead of the game, 34-30. Keeping it close for majority of the third, a free throw from Zytipha Joines tied the contest at 42 all. Joines would tie the game again at 47 all after hitting another free throw with just fifty-two seconds left on the clock. Rebecca McGaughnea got in the books with a jump shot inside the paint, but Pfeiffer was able to knock down a three, seconds before the horn, to put the Falcons up 50-49.
- A tight battle throughout the fourth quarter tallied eleven lead changes between Methodist and Pfeiffer. A free throw from Mya Johnson, of the Falcons, tied the game 66-66 with just over a minute left in the frame. A lay-up from Irizarry, gave the Monarchs a one-point lead, forcing Pfeiffer to call a timeout. With 25 seconds left, the Falcons could not connect a jumper and a Methodist rebound forced Pfeiffer to start fouling with 13 seconds left. The Falcons had two fouls to give before sending the Monarchs to the line. Pfeiffer's fifth team foul sent Irizarry to the line, where she knocked down two clutch free throws to give Methodist a two-point lead. Only 6 seconds left on the clock, Tate intercepted a long Falcons pass to secure the Monarchs victory.
