Monarchs Go Perfect in Conference

MISENHEIMER, N.C.  Methodist women's soccer played their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon in a road match versus Pfeiffer University. With the Monarchs 2-1 victory over the Falcons on N.E. Lefko Field, Methodist went a perfect 9-0 in USA South Athletic Conference play for the second straight year.
 
These Monarchs have now won 23 consecutive conferences matches in the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first goal was not scored until the 62nd minute of the game. Natalia Marshall-Hewitt was able to put Methodist on the board with an assist from Amanda DeDomenico.
  • Eight minutes later, the Falcons tallied the equalizer with a goal from Sydney Siders after receiving a pass from Yailine Riera.
  • In her first season as a Monarch, Corrine Shovlain registered the game-winner in the 78th minute of the match.
STAT FACTS
  • Methodist took more shots than Pfeiffer, 12 to eight, but the Falcons were more efficient with theirs. Seven of Pfeiffer's eight (88%) reached on target while 67% (eight of 12) of the Monarch's shots were on net.
  • Each side recorded six saves in the game, with starting Methodist goalie Mary Newman making five herself.
UP NEXT
