JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Hanover def. Methodist, 87-74
Records: Methodist 0-11, Hanover 7-4
Location: Cregger Center; Salem, Virginia
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hanover opened the game by tallying the first six points before Montell Moore registered a three for the first bucket of Methodist. Following an exchange of baskets, Matt Munoz sparked an 11-0 run by the Panthers to give them a 14-point lead, 19-5.
- Jumpers by Brone Brinson and Konner Raines helped bring the score back down and then a three by T.J. East got the Monarchs within three possessions, 26-17. Hanover quickly made it a double digit advantage again after a five-point swing. Methodist went into halftime down 35-23.
- A few minutes into the second half, the Monarchs were only trailing by 11 following a three by Clayton Coe but then the Panthers scored 11 straight points, 52-30. With the help of Brinson and Eric Shadoan, Methodist cut into the lead a little bit by recording six consecutive points.
- The Monarchs got back-to-back threes from Brinson and Coe to get it down to a 14-point, 79-65, ball game. Both Moore and De'Shaun Kee, with a layup and a three-pointer respectively, got involved to help with late momentum of Methodist. Unfortunately too many fouls by the Monarchs down stretch allowed Hanover to go to the charity stripe and prevent any type of comeback.
