LYNCHBURG, Va. For the second day this weekend, Methodist split in the doubleheader sequence, this time against Randolph College when the team won game one, 18-15 and lost game two, 8-4 at the Randolph Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs got the bats rolling in the first inning of Game 1, batting all the way around to score four runs. Randolph answered when it was there turn to bat, and matched Methodist, scoring their fifth run off a double to center field that sent two runner's home for the Wildcats. The first inning accounted for nine runs between the teams.
- In the bottom of the second, Randolph went ahead 9-4 but within the next two innings, Methodist took the game over and gained back their lead to make it 11-9. In the top of the sixth, Maria Kollar smacked a grand slam out of the park and cleared the bases, giving the Monarchs some cushion to make it 18-11 before going into the last inning. After a long sixth inning, the Wildcats gained four runs, but the Monarchs were able to maintain their defense and win the game 18-15.
- In Game 2 Methodist put the first tick on the board from a single to center field by Haley Fethke to send Taylor Jones from second to home. Randolph went up 6-1 in the fourth inning from an in the park homerun by Dominique Irving, bringing in two runs for the Wildcats. The next three runs for the Monarchs were each batted in from single hits in the gaps but Methodist was unable to return the five-run deficit that occurred mid-way through the game and lost 8-4.
NUMBERS
- In Game 1, three Monarchs finished with a game-high four hits; Bethany Junker, Fethke and Kollar. Kollar posted a new career-high and game-high five runs batted in (RBI) along with her first collegiate grand slam.
- Methodist out hit Randolph in Game 2, 8-7.
- In Game 2 Jones tallied the team-high two hits with two RBI's.
