STAUNTON Va. Methodist women's basketball traveled to Mary Baldwin University, on Saturday afternoon, for the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament but came up short in their second meeting this week with the fighting squirrels, 72-56, in the Physical Activities Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist trailed behind in the first quarter, only closing it to one point four minutes into the stretch. The Monarchs finished the first quarter down 11-8 after Zytipha Joines cashed in a three.
- Methodist continued to trail behind in the second quarter until Melissa D'Oleo picked up a steal and dished it to Zykeria Jenkins for a knock down jumper, tying the game at 18 all with three minutes to go in the first half. The Fighting Squirrels went on a run and ended the half up 29-23.
- In the third quarter, Mary Baldwin advanced the lead to 15 with four minutes left in the quarter. The Monarchs were able to bring the lead back down to 10 before the start of the fourth with a jumper from Jenkins. Methodist continued to battle back in the fourth quarter, and closed the gap to nine, but with no more gas in the tank, the Monarchs would end their season in the first rounds of the conference tournament.

- Two Monarchs finished in double figures, Aniyah Tate and Kiley Hicks lead the team with 12. Tate added seven rebounds and three steals, while Hicks contributed eight rebounds and block.
- Mary Baldwin shot 42.9% from the field, 40% from threes going six for 15 from behind the arc and shot 63.2% from the line. Methodist shot 31.4% from the field, 16.7% from three-point range and 80% from the line, going eight for 10 as a team.
This concludes the 2021-2022 season for the Methodist women's basketball team.
