MISENHEIMER, N.C. Methodist men's basketball traveled to Pfeiffer University on Monday for a USA South Conference match-up, but came up short in the second half, losing 85-69 inside Merner Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pfeiffer opened the game with a shot from behind the arc, but within minutes, Methodist pulled ahead. Dante Burden found James Wilds III down low for two, to make it 7-4 Monarchs. Mid-way through the first half, Kevin McLaughlin Jr. dropped in a free throw to put Methodist up by six, the team's largest lead in the first to make it, 16-10.
- The Falcons stayed with the Monarchs, keeping it within a basket or two throughout the first half. Jerome Savoy of Pfeiffer went to the line for two and tied the game 31 all going into the second half.
- The Falcons hit a three on the first shot of the new half to make it 34-31 for their first lead since the opening minutes of the game. A steal and fast break layup from Nehemiah McClain kept the Monarchs within three points, to make it 41-38 Pfeiffer with 14 minutes left. The Falcons amped up the pressure mid-way through the second half and applied a full court press to extend the lead and slow the Monarchs.
- In the final eight minutes of the second half, the Monarchs trailed but fought back to keep the score under ten. McClain knocked down a three-pointer from the wing to close the gap to four, 64-61, before the Falcons brought the deficit back up to 16. Methodist unable to shift the momentum in the final minutes, came up short, 85-69.

- McClain scored a career high 13 points and tallied three boards and one steal.
- As a team, the Monarchs committed 32 team fouls that sent Pfeiffer to the line to shoot 49 free throws, 35 of which were shot in the second half. The Falcons connected on 38 of their attempts, shooting 77.6% while Methodist went to the line 22 times and made 17, for a percentage of 77.3%.
