Monarchs Move Past Quakers at Home

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  After losing a close match on Saturday, Methodist men's tennis secured a 6-3 win over visiting Guilford College in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs went 3-0 in doubles to start the match. Jordan Theron and Quinn McNamara tagged the best score between the three sets as the pair scored an 8-0 win at the No.1 slot.
  • The No. 2 team of Henry Murray and Luke Laney next defeated opponents Jay Montague and Tye Sasser, 8-2, followed by Harrison Bitzberger and AJ Rogers who won their set, 8-5 at the No. 3 doubles.
  • In the individual flights, Theron opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win over opponent, Montague. McNamara topped Theron's win by earning a 6-0 sweep against Andrew Ferris for the team's fifth point of day.
  • The team's final win of the day came in the last set, as Rogers competed in two long sets against Guilford's Sasser to win 7-5 in the first, followed by another 7-5 win in the second.
