ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. Methodist softball traveled to Edge Field on Wednesday afternoon for a couple of USA South Athletic Conference games against North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Battling Bishops won the first game 2-0, scoring in the fifth and sixth innings before the Monarchs took the second game 9-5 for a series split.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Early in Game 1, Methodist hit a few hits in the gaps to put runners in scoring position but could not register any runs.
- The Battling Bishops had a slow start at the plate as the team only had two hits going into the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, a hit up the middle to center field allowed N.C. Wesleyan to tact the first run on the board.
- Methodist could not get a hold of a hit through the sixth and seventh innings as the Battling Bishops scored one more to make it 2-0.
- In Game 2, N.C. Wesleyan scored early, going up 2-0 in the bottom of the third. The Monarchs matched the score in top of the fifth after Haven Williams hit a double and Bethany Junker hit a single to get on base. An error by N.C Wesleyan's catcher advanced Williams home. Junker then scored on another error by the Battling Bishops.
- N.C. Wesleyan went up 3-2 going into the seventh inning, but a single to center field from Williams scored the tying run. The game went into extra innings and both teams scored one run in the eighth inning, forcing the game to continue in extra innings.
- The Battling Bishops' fielding struggled in the top of the ninth inning, allowing the Monarchs to score three unearned runs out of the five scored for the inning.
- N.C. Wesleyan managed to slip one run in the bottom of the ninth but it was not enough to make a comeback as the Monarchs took Game 2, 9-5.
Stat Facts
- N.C. Wesleyan committed five errors in Game 2 which allowed Methodist to score five unearned runs of the nine runs scored.
- Junker led the team in Game 2 with three hits followed by Meaghan Himes and Heather Tsapp with two hits each.
- Brittany Jones and Alyssa Barwick split games as Jones pitched a total six innings in Game 1 while Barwick went the extra to pitch nine in Game 2. Between the two pitchers there were 12 strikeouts and 13 hits allowed, along with seven runs scored on the day.
