NEWPORT NEWS, Va. Methodist women's soccer faced off against the No. 1 team in the nation, Christopher Newport on Sunday morning at the Captains Classic. The Captains strong offense led to a 6-0 win over the Monarchs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Captains jumped out early on the Monarchs, scoring their first goal just four minutes into play.
- By the 20 minute mark, Christopher Newport had gained a 3-0 lead with two goals coming off corner kicks.
- The lone shot attempt for Methodist before the end of the first half was taken by Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber which hung wide of the goal.
- The Monarchs held Christopher Newport to one goal for most of the second half until the last four minutes of action, when the Captains scored two back-to-back goals off a cross into the box. Carolina Simpkins blocked one shot but with a ricochet back into the playing field, a Captain player was able to knock it in.
- Christopher Newport played defense by owning possession and pushing into its attacking third all afternoon. The Captains rang up a 28-4 advantage in total shots, and a 20-2 lead in shots on goal.
- Caley Justice finished her time in goal at halftime with five saves over her 45 minutes of action, giving way to Simpkins, who collected eight saves, in the second half.
