HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs were forced to punt the ball on their first possession but the defense would get the ball back. An exchange error by the running back and the quarterback of the Generals allowed the pigskin to fall on the field, where Alex Boyd of Methodist was the first player to get on top of it at Washington and Lee's 7-yard line.
- One play later, Tyquan Eaddy received the handoff and ran up the middle for the touchdown and the first score of the contest.
- On the ensuing possession for the Generals, they went 75 yards on 15 plays for their first touchdown, which was capped off by an Alex Wertz 3-yard rush. The point after touchdown attempt following that was blocked by the Monarchs to keep a 7-6 advantage over Washington and Lee.
- After Methodist got the ball back, the Monarchs went on a long drive themselves all the way to the Generals 3-yard line. The drive stalled though and forced a Trevor Hargett field goal attempt from 20 yards out but the kick went wide left.
- This gave the Washington and Lee the ball at their own 20-yard line. The Generals moved down the field on some big run plays that eventually lead to Aden Boyd running up the middle for an 8-yard touchdown and gave Washington and Lee the lead, 13-7.
- With seven minutes and 22 seconds before the half, the lead would change hands two more times. The first was by Methodist when Keyshaun Pete ran it in from four yards out followed by a 23-yard field goal by Arturo Ramirez of the Generals to make it 16-14 heading into the break.
- The third quarter was heavily dominated by Washington and Lee as they possessed the ball for almost 11 and half minutes in the frame. During that time, the Generals scored an additional 14 points, two rushing touchdowns by Alex Wertz, to take a commanding 30-14 advantage.
- At the start of the fourth quarter that the Monarchs were able to force a Washington and Lee punt. Now with Methodist in a hurry to score, they tried to move the ball quickly through the air, but David Onyejekwe intercepted a pass for Washington and Lee.
- The turnover allowed the Generals to chew up another six minutes of clock and tack on another touchdown to go up 37-14.
- The Monarchs came close to scoring a late touchdown when they had the ball on Washington and Lee's 1-yard line but were unable to find the end zone.
