HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a three-point contest to begin the outing as Methodist sank the first shot of the day – a Jessica Drake triple. The Falcons responded with a three-point basket of their own, followed by another three from Drake. A second Pfeiffer three was answered by Jillian Peterson, whose three-pointer made the score 9-6. The teams briefly took the game into the paint before Methodist's Melissa D'Oleo joined in on the action from behind the arc, giving the Monarchs an 18-10 advantage. From there, Pfeiffer closed the quarter on a 10-0 run.
- Methodist scored the first eight points to begin the second quarter, reclaiming the lead. Pfeiffer clawed back to tie it up at 30-30, but Aniyah Tate recorded the last bucket of the period to give Methodist a two-point halftime edge.
- With the first points of the second half, the Falcons evened the score. Baskets by the Monarchs stretched their lead to as many as five, but the persistent Falcons tied the game again, this time at 43-43. Tate scored six of Methodist's last nine points to end the quarter, and the Monarchs entered the fourth period up 52-48.
- Peterson's third three-point make of the contest pushed Methodist's lead to seven to start the final quarter. The Falcons responded with a quick two, but on the other end of the court, the Monarchs drilled their ninth three-pointer of the game. A free-throw from Tate put Methodist ahead by nine. Holding the Monarchs to just two points over the next three and a half minutes, the Falcons scored 10 to ease within one point of the home team. Methodist closed strong, outscoring the visitors 12-2 during the game's final three minutes.
