HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs took a 4-0 lead as Hicklen and Zac Sledge knocked down two free throws each. The Owls answered with four free throws of their own. Trading buckets with Methodist, Warren Wilson took an 11-8 lead just over four minutes into the game.
- With the Owls up 17-16 with under eight minutes left in the half, Methodist's D.J. Squire sank back-to-back triples to put the Monarchs ahead by five. Warren Wilson tied the score four times without taking the lead, finally leveling at 30-30. The Owls scored the final five points of the half to take a five-point edge into the break.
- Warren Wilson scored a three-pointer to start the second half, pushing its lead to eight. Methodist's Squire responded with a three, but the Owls made two consecutive buckets to take a nine-point lead. Warren Wilson maintained its lead, pushing ahead by as many as 13 (60-47) with under 11 minutes to play.
- A 12-2 run by the Monarchs narrowed the gap to three points (62-59). With the Owls up 69-63, Hicklen scored the next eight points all by himself to put Methodist up by two with 5:30 remaining in the half. The Owls recaptured the lead and led by four with 2:38 to go, but from there the Monarchs outscored the home team 6-0 to capture the win.

- The Monarchs had four players score in double figures. Behind Derrion Hicklen's career-high 28, D.J. Squire and Aaron Potter posted 11 points each, while Konner Raines scored a career-high 10 points.
- Shooting statistics for both teams were nearly identical, but the Monarchs won the rebound battle, 35-27.
- Methodist drained 20 of 26 free throws in the second half and 26 of 37 for the game.
