FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. With a spot in the USA South championship on the line, the top-seeded Methodist men's soccer team fell to fourth-seeded Brevard College in a devastating 4-2 defeat on Thursday. The Monarchs fought hard but conceded the game-winning score in the final minute of regulation.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist claimed an early 1-0 advantage as Steven Floyd collected a ball that was mishandled by the Brevard goalkeeper, breezing through the box before forcefully sending the ball flying into the back of the net. The score came just over two minutes into the contest, and the Monarchs would hold the 1-0 lead until halftime.
- The Tornados evened the score just over 15 minutes into the second half, as Brevard's Sam O'Callaghan took a shot from beyond the top of the box, driving the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
- With just over 16 minutes remaining in regulation, Brevard's Ryan Lynch lofted a pass from just inside the top left side of the box that connected with Rocco Barbon, who used his head to direct the ball into the top right corner of the goal and give the Tornados a 2-1 edge.
- Just past the 81' mark, Methodist's Casey Atwell attempted a penalty kick that was saved by the Brevard goalkeeper. With 4:30 to go in the half, the Monarchs got another chance – this time a free kick from roughly five yards beyond the box. Much to the delight of the home crowd, Christopher Shoffler planted his left foot into the grass and used his right to boot the ball over the Brevard defenders and into the upper left side of the goal, equalizing the match at 2-2.
- With under 30 seconds left in the match, Brevard's Barbon broke through the Methodist defense and took a shot from the top of the box that flew past the Monarch goalkeeper, giving the Tornados a 3-2 lead. Methodist's final offensive attempt was thwarted by Brevard, resulting in a last-second goal by Caue dos Santos.
