Records: Methodist 2-23 (2-12 USA South), Southern Virginia 12-13 (5-9)
Location: March F. Riddle Center; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist's first two baskets were both made by Brian Bullock from behind the arc. Trailing 14-10, De'Shaun Kee sank a three for the Monarchs with 10:29 remaining in the first half.
  • With the score tied at 19-19, Brinson drilled another triple to give the Monarchs another lead. The score was evened again at 24-24, and this time Montell Moore had the answer with a three-pointer. Methodist maintained the lead, reaching a seven-point advantage after a make from deep by Clayton Coe.
  • Boasting a four-point edge to start the second half, the Monarchs were first to score again, this time a two-point jumper by T.J. East. The teams battled back and forth before another Bullock three-pointer boosted Methodist's lead to seven. The Knights scored a two-point basket, then Blake Lewis drained a three of his own to kickstart a 7-0 for the Monarchs, giving them a game-high 12-point lead.
  • The Knights used an 11-3 run to narrow the gap to four points, but Brinson scored two baskets to widen it back to eight. Scoring 14 of Methodist's final 15 points, freshman Derrion Hicklen nearly single-handedly closed out the game for the Monarchs as he went 4-for-4 from the floor and 6-for-6 at the line over the last 7:30 of gameplay.
