Methodist Suffers Road Loss at Southern Virginia

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Methodist women's basketball team battled with Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon, suffering an 82-59 loss to the Knights. On short rest, the Monarchs were unable to keep up with the hot shooting of Southern Virginia.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern Virginia was first on the board with back-to-back baskets to start the period. Aniyah Tate recorded the first points for Methodist to make the score 4-2. After trading scores, three-pointers on three-straight possessions gave the Knights a 15-6 lead.
  • With a 17-10 advantage to start the second quarter, the Knights scored the first two baskets of the period to go up by 12. With 6:30 left in the half, Southern Virginia's Barrett Jessop drilled her third triple of the quarter to give the Knights a 16-point edge. The Knights made four more threes before the quarter ended, taking a 41-27 lead into halftime.
  • Southern Virginia began the third quarter with a 6-0 run. Methodist decreased its deficit to 15 as Jessica Drake dropped in a layup with a free throw after, but the Knights scored 10 of the next 11 points to inflate their lead to 24.
  • Down by 20 to begin the fourth quarter, Methodist's first four made shots of the period were all three-pointers. The Monarchs were once again able to decrease Southern Virginia's lead to 15, but the Knights did not let up.
