Monarchs Sweep Pride

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Methodist University women's tennis took part in a USA South Athletic Conference contest, on Saturday morning, with Greensboro College making the trip to Fayetteville. The Monarchs proved to be too much for the Pride with a 9-0 win at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In doubles action, the Methodist pair of Toni Laney & Veva Willocks won their match 8-1 on court one while the duo of Erin Mines & Hannah Higgins claimed an 8-0 victory on court two. The Monarchs went up 3-0 in doubles with a default win on court three.
  • Two of six single flights were also won by default. Higgins picked by the only clean singles sheet (6-0, 6-0) in court three.
  • Cameron Kennedy was victorious following sets of 6-1, 6-0 in her flight, No. 4. On court two, Sydney Bird defeated her counterpart 6-1, 6-4.
  • The last match completed was Willocks versus Madison Bowen of Greensboro in No. 1 singles, which went to the super tiebreaker. Willocks took the first set, 6-4, before Bowen won set two by a score of 7-5. In the tiebreaker, Willocks was able to finish off sweep for Methodist with a 10-3 win.
UP NEXT
Methodist take the courts again on Tuesday to play its final non-conference game of the regular season, on the road at Belmont Abbey College. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
