Methodist Falls to Top-Seeded N.C. Wesleyan in Men’s Tennis Semifinal

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Facing first-seeded and nationally ranked North Carolina Wesleyan in the semifinal round of the USA South Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament, fourth-seeded Methodist was unable to upset the host team on Thursday, falling 5-0. The match concluded as soon as a decision was reached.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist went 0-3 in the doubles round. Matthew Hurley and Wills Belser fell 8-4 in the number-one match, Andrew Wood and Cameron Roth lost 8-4 on the second court, and Evan Kane and Will Trocchi were defeated 8-0 in the third match.
  • Wood was the first to fall in the singles round, dropping his first set 6-0 and the second 6-1. Roth was defeated next in two sets of 6-1 each.
  • The Battling Bishops reached the five points needed for victory before Hurley and Belser's singles matches concluded.

Methodist's 2023 season comes to an end. The Monarchs finished with an 8-12 record overall and had two players (Matthew Hurley and Wills Belser) earn first-team all-conference honors, while Hurley was also named USA South rookie of the year.
