ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. Methodist University women's tennis team, number two seed, faced off with No. 1 seed North Carolina Wesleyan University in the 2023 USA South Women's Tennis Championship match on Friday afternoon. The Monarchs battled hard but still found themselves on the losing end, 5-0, to the Battling Bishops at the Slick Family Tennis Center.
Following the event, the USA South Athletic Conference released its 2023 All-Tournament team with
Megan Kidd and
Valeria Matute making the list.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- On court three, Kidd and Matute were the Methodist twosome that played against Andrea Elaez & Bethan Fothergill from N.C. Wesleyan, where Elaez & Fothergill were victorious 8-4. The Battling Bishop pair of Elisa Mariotti & Julie Schoormans defeated Cailin Cifra & Kamdyn Balko of the Monarchs 8-5.
- The regionally ranked team -- #10 according to the ITA -- of Kristal Dule & Cristina Mendoza Romero finished off the 3-0 doubles sweep for N.C. Wesleyan after beating the Methodist duo of Toni Laney & Veva Willocks 8-5.
- Mendoza Romero gave the Battling Bishops a 4-0 advantage following a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kidd (MU) in number three singles. With a 6-0, 6-4 victory on court two, Mariotti clinched the 2023 title for N.C. Wesleyan by taking down the Monarchs own Cifra.
