THE ESSENTIALS

Records: Methodist 12-14 (3-5 USA South); Meredith 15-11 (7-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After three scoreless innings to start game one, Methodist got on the board first with a Haven Williams double that scored one run. Haley Downes closely followed, batting in another run to give the Monarchs a 2-0 advantage.
  • Methodist's lead held until the top of the sixth, when the Avenging Angels recorded three runs on four hits. The Monarchs had two runners in scoring position with just one out in the bottom of the sixth, but were unable to bring home a run. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and a runner on second base, Haven Williams singled to center field, sending the tying run around third. The relay by Meredith was in time to get the out at home, ending the ballgame.
  • Meredith struck first in the second contest, scoring an early run in the first frame. Methodist matched that run in the bottom of the third, as Sydney Sizemore doubled to score Bailey Snow from second base.
  • The Monarchs committed two errors in the top of the fourth, allowing the Avenging Angels to score two runs and take a 3-1 lead. However, the tides turned in the fifth inning as an error by Meredith (following a single by Sizemore that scored one run) contributed to another run scoring for the Monarchs.
  • With two outs and the go-ahead run on third, Haley Fethke stepped up to the plate and singled up the middle to give Methodist a 4-3 edge. Alyssa Barwick pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh to secure the win.
NUMBERS

  • Sydney Sizemore recorded a team-high two RBI between the two games, batting in a run in two different plate appearances in the game-two victory.
  • Meredith was a perfect 7-0 against conference opponents before falling to the Monarchs in game two.
