JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist def. Pfeiffer, 55-45
Records: Methodist 13-5 (10-1 USA South), Pfeiffer 4-13 (3-9)
Location: Merner Gym; Misenheimer, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams exchanged the first couple of points before Pfeiffer took an 8-4 advantage following a four-point spurt. Methodist did not take its first lead of the game until there was 42 seconds left in the opening quarter. Jessica Drake capped off a 10-4 run with a three and put the Monarchs up 14-12. The score would be tied heading into the second frame after the Falcons made two shots from the free throw line.
- Halfway through the second, Pfeiffer regained the lead once more but it would be short lived as Methodist own Hannah Evans knocked down a triple to put her team back in front, 19-18. During the last three minutes before halftime, the trio of Arriana White (four points), Kiley Hicks (two), and Aniyah Tate (two) went on an 8-2 run for the Monarchs to give them a seven-point advantage.
- Methodist came out and registered the first six points of the third period to increase its lead to 13-points, 33-20. For the next six minutes the Falcons went on a 10-1 run to cut the deficit down to four. The last minute of the third saw Drake and Alana Jones each make their own three-pointer for the Monarchs and give them a double-digit, 40-30, lead again.
- Midway through the fourth quarter Methodist went on a 9-0 run to make it a 17-point difference, their largest lead of the contest. Even though Pfeiffer was able to get seven of those points back, the deficit proved to be too much for the Falcons to come back from.
